Receiver Shoot Wrapped!

Just wrapped shooting this past Sunday the psychological short film thriller “Receiver” written by Cavan Campbell and Luke Higginson where I play the lead character Sriyani. It was a first in many ways. First time starring in a short film. First time doing a thriller. First time doing such intense emotional work needed for such a dynamic character. I am so proud and so grateful for what I experienced this past weekend. It was in no way free of any self-doubt though. Constantly worrying about whether what I was creating was good or not. Right or wrong. But then I think back to the amazing workshop I took a few months back through Actors Workshop Canada with Deborah Aquila and I remember her words about it not being about right or wrong. It’s never about being right or wrong. It’s about creating compelling characters. Finding the truth in that character. About telling an emotional story. And prep. Prep. Prep. Prep. I also could not have done it without the amazing support of the director/writer Cavan Campbell that never once cast a shadow of doubt on me. That gave me freedom to play. But also created space early on for prep and rehearsal with my fellow cast mates to discover and create a foundation before the chaos of being on set. It’s not that often you get to play an amazing role specifically written for a South Asian actor in film. I cherish this experience. And now to let it go. #receiverfilm #careergoals#careerhighlight #thriller #shortfilm #gratitude #southasianlead#postshootblues
